■영어에서 chicken은 "겁쟁이"라는 뜻입니다.

실제로 외국인들은 겁먹은 사람 앞에서 닭날개
흉내 내듯이 손을 겨드랑이 쪽으로 넣어 흔들며 겁쟁이라고
놀리는 제스처를 취한답니다.

He's a real chicken. 그는 진짜 겁쟁이야.

(하겠다고 얘기했지만 막판에 겁나서)
"그만두다, 포기하다"라는 뜻입니다.

I tried to jump into the water,
but chickened out at the last minute.
